Gambling Loophole

The Sunday Telegraph 5/11/06

At least 20 computer games than mimic casinos and poker machines could be restricted after a loophole in the Office of Film & Literature Classification review process was discovered.

Gambling games, some of which include Internet links to access online casinos and pornographic websites are not mentioned in existing games classification guidelines.

This means that such games carry the lowest restriction ratings and can be bought and used by children as young as eight.

Comment from the editor: You may recall a while ago we ran a story by Julie Roberts (Intern Psychologist) about her concerns on this issue, Julie also wrote to the Office Film and Literature Classification. GIS supported this action with their own letter.

We believe these actions have contributed to the identification of this loophole and subsequent changes
