Responsible Gambling Awareness Week Celebrated In NewcastleMember for Lake Macquarie Mr Jeff Hunter officially launched Gambling Awareness Week in Newcastle on the 8 May 2006 at South Newcastle Leagues Club. The week is celebrated across Australia and has become an important time of the year for a number of industries. Jeff spoke about the positive steps the Government is making on problem gambling in the Hunter Region. Jeff particularly recognized the significance and courage of a problem gambler who shared her stories to the crowd earlier in the night. In attendance were representatives from Registered Clubs, Hotels, Gaming Manufacturers, Gambling Counselling Services and other interested parties. President of the Hunter Council on Problem Gambling Mr Ashley Gordon said, “The night is focused on all industries working and coming together to recognise that problem gambling is evident in our community. However we are all committed to tackling the issues and helping those in need of support”. Other guest speakers included, Bruce Woods President Australian Hotels Association, Newcastle/Hunter and Jon Chin State Councillor Clubs NSW Hunter.
