Mission Counselling Gambling Service NowraThis service is funded by the Casino Community Benefit Fund and was established in March 1999. Providing a free and confidential service the initial team consisted of a gambling counsellor, financial/personal counsellor and a community development officer. The service covers the Shoalhaven region with a population of 85,000 comprising 49 towns and villages.. Goals achieved in the first 15 months of operation include: provision of a holistic service to 450 clients; a series of short skills based courses in communication, anger management, life skills etc.; community awareness activities to generate increased awareness of how gambling can affect individuals, families and the community; support to gambling related self-help groups; promotional material supplied to clubs/hotels and community organisations; conduct of a comprehensive needs assessment across the area. From July 2000 re-funding has allowed expansion with the appointment of an Aboriginal support worker, and Coordinator. for the team. The new team looks forward to the next two years with enthusiasm and commitment. Please let us know whether the information on this page was useful.
